My name is Frederick Jack Russell and I'm an aspiring European Tour Professional. I'm 22 years old and started the game of golf at the age of 13. I obtained a 0 handicap by the age of 19 and progressed to +1 last year. I regularly compete in national amateur tournaments but I'm keen to challenge my ability and self-belief by turning professional in April 2014. I believe this will help me take my golf to a new level as there will be much more to play for, as well as much more on the line.
I currently study Sports Studies at the University of Hertfordshire based in Hatfield. I am lucky enough to have received a sports scholarship which allows me access to the gym facilities and strength and performance centre. The strength and conditioning training is carried out by Tony Sephton who is currently the Strength and Conditioning consultant for the English Golf Union.
My home club is Essendon Country Club and I train at the Palmerston Academy at Brocket Hall Golf Club. I usually practice 15-20 hours and play 2-3 full rounds per week. I see my coach Robert Moss several times a month. Robert has been my coach for 8 years and is based at Mendip Spring Golf Club. I also see Barney Puttick once every two weeks. Barney is based at Mid Herts Golf Club and is ranked as one of the top 25 coaches in the UK by Golf Monthly. This ensures all areas of my game are monitored and kept in check and by recieving two professional opinions I am able to progress with confidence.
